Zines are "self-published, non-commercial print-work[s] [...] typically produced in small, limited batches" (The Bindery). Inspired by their underground, political, and craftivist history and our favourite zines, we will be publishing biannual issues featuring written and visual work from community members.

C.I.A.O.'s zines will bring together our collective and creative interpretations on a variety of themes, from herbalism and agriculture, to art and design, and history and immigration.

C.I.A.O. Zine no. 1

Topic: Labour

C.I.A.O. invites submissions for our first zine, centering around the theme of labour

The topic for this zine came from our members asking one another what their relationship to labour was. We looked at labour through the relationships of our immigrant families, our service jobs and minimum wages, and most recently, the labour expected of us during a moment of intense crisis. We wanted to take the word and see all of the circumstances under which it could be broken down: emotional labour, invisible labour, labour struggles, performative labour in late capitalism, and the future of labour. We encourage you to be creative with what you define as labour, what has forged your relationship with it, and how it shapes and structures our world.
